Ellen V. and Philip L. Glass Holocaust Commemorative Series | Yom HaShoah Commemoration: 80 Years of Remembrance

April 24, 2025 | 6:30pm CST

9603 Woods Drive, Skokie, IL 60077

Join us for a powerful and reflective evening as we commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the end of World War II and the Holocaust. This milestone serves as a poignant reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and our collective responsibility to honor the memory of the victims and survivors.

The evening will feature a compelling keynote by Rabbi Jacob J. Schacter, Senior Scholar at the Yeshiva University Center for the Jewish Future and University Professor of Jewish History and Thought. Drawing from his deeply personal connection, Rabbi Schacter will share stories from his late father, Rabbi Herschel Schacter, the first American Army chaplain to liberate Buchenwald. Upon liberation, Rabbi Herschel Schacter immersed himself in the world of Survivors, helping them rebuild their shattered lives.  This moving presentation will underscore the enduring power of hope and faith amidst unimaginable horror, reminding us of the vital importance of remembrance and hope for the future,

This special evening will also include remarks by Consul General Michael Ahrens, Consulate General off the Federal Republic of Germany in Chicago and Consul General Yinam Cohen, Consulate General of Israel, a candle-lighting ceremony featuring Survivors and descendants of Survivors, as well as memorial prayers lead by Cantor David Berger from KAM Isaiah Israel.

Together, we pledge to honor the past, uphold the legacy of Holocaust memory, and inspire hope for a future free of hatred and intolerance.

Free to the Public. Reservations required.
