Online & On-site Commemoration: Babiy Yar: 82nd Anniversary
Join CJE SeniorLife Holocaust Community Services (HCS) and Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center (IHMEC) for an evening with Dr. Peter Black, author and former Senior Historian for the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Dr. Black will examine the Nazi invasion and occupation of the Soviet Union and the impact on those who were persecuted and murdered.
This gathering will include music by Maxwell Street Klezmer Duet, remarks by HCS and IHMEC, memoriam to Survivors, and a candle-lighting ceremony.
On-site guests are invited to tour the Museum’s dedicated Holocaust in the Soviet Union gallery. Tours will begin at 4:30 pm, and the program will begin at 6:00 pm.
A virtual viewing option will be available, and English-to-Russian translation will be provided online. A link will be sent to all virtual registrants 24 hours before the commemoration.
