Virtual: “From the Reich to the Raj: Finding refuge in India”
For Educators in Grades 8-12
During the Holocaust, thousands of Jews sought refuge from the persecution and genocide perpetrated by Nazi Germany. While many fled to neighboring European countries, a significant number also sought asylum in more distant lands, including India.
India’s diverse and relatively tolerant society had historically provided a sanctuary for Jews fleeing various forms of persecution over the centuries.
With the rise of the Nazi regime and the onset of the Holocaust, many European Jews sought refuge in countries willing to accept them. Under British colonial rule, India became one of the destinations for these Jewish refugees.
By exploring the experiences of Jewish refugees in India, this program aims to celebrate their resilience, honor their contributions, and promote a deeper understanding of the global impact of the Holocaust.
