Interrupted Lives: Nine Stories of Child Survivors of the Holocaust

Interrupted Lives | Nine Stories of Child Survivors of the Holocaust

February 23, 2025 | 2:30pm CST

9603 Woods Drive, Skokie, IL 60077

The Holocaust forever changed the course of history, shattering millions of lives. Yet, among its youngest victims, some found the strength to survive and rebuild against unimaginable odds. Interrupted Lives: Nine Stories of Child Survivors of the Holocaust brings to light the extraordinary stories of nine Jewish children who endured the unthinkable. From hiding with strangers to surviving the horrors of concentration camps, each survivor’s journey is a powerful testament to resilience, courage, and hope.

This highly anticipated book launch will feature an engaging discussion with Amanda Friedeman, co-editor of Interrupted Lives and Illinois Holocaust Museum’s Associate Director of Education. Amanda’s nearly two decades of work with Holocaust Survivors have ensured these vital histories are preserved and shared for future generations.

Friedeman will be joined by Lynn Denton, a Second-Generation Speaker and daughter of Judy Straus, one of the Survivors whose story is featured in the book, and Aaron Greenberg, Ph.D – Co-Founder of Biograph LLC., who with his co-founder and brother AJ Greenberg spent countless hours interviewing each survivor and composing each narrative.

Moderating the program is Dr. Melanie Koss, a nationally recognized educator and advocate for literacy and social justice. Dr. Koss will lead a meaningful dialogue that deepens our understanding of the Holocaust’s enduring lessons and the resilience of the human spirit.

Join us for an exciting afternoon of powerful storytelling, reflection, and inspiration as we celebrate the launch of Interrupted Lives, honor the voices of Survivors, and reaffirm our collective commitment to building a world rooted in compassion, justice, and hope.

Reservations required. Free to the public

This program is made possible, in part, thanks to co-editor Kelley Szany, Illinois Holocaust Museum’s Senior Vice President and an internationally recognized leader in Holocaust and genocide education, whose award-winning work includes producing ten Holocaust-related films and advancing human rights initiatives globally.
