On-Site: Philip L. and Ellen V. Glass Holocaust Commemorative Series | A Special Presentation of Goodbye Marianne 

Illinois Holocaust Museum and internationally renowned Goodman Theatre present a dramatic reading of Goodbye Marianne. Directed by Raquel Torres, Goodman Theatre’s 2024/2025 Michael Maggio Directing Fellow, Goodbye Marianne is based on playwright Irene Kirstein Watts’ experience as a child in Nazi Germany immediately after the November Pogroms. Marianne finds one day that she is no longer permitted to attend school. Ultimately, Marianne’s parents must make an impossible choice to keep her safe. A story of hope and resilience in the face of a terrible unknown, Goodbye Marianne is appropriate for all ages.    

As we gather to commemorate the 86th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the program will also include remarks from Consul General Michael Ahrens of Germany and Deputy Consul General Delphine Gamburg of Israel, a candle-lighting ceremony featuring Survivors and descendants of Survivors, as well as memorial prayers.    

Reading is 60 minutes with a post-show discussion to follow.
