Ellen V. & Philip L. Glass Holocaust Commemorative Series | Kristallnacht, 86 Years Later: Goodbye Marianne
This powerful commemoration, presented in partnership with the internationally renowned Goodman Theatre, features a full-length dramatic reading of Goodbye Marianne. Directed by Raquel Torres, Goodbye Marianne is based on playwright Irene Kirstein Watts’ experience as a child in Nazi Germany immediately after the November Pogroms. Marianne finds one day that she is no longer permitted to attend school. Ultimately, Marianne’s parents must make an impossible choice to keep her safe. A story of hope and resilience in the face of a terrible unknown, Goodbye Marianne is appropriate for all ages.
The commemoration will also include a candle-lighting ceremony featuring Survivors and descendants of Survivors, as well as memorial prayers.
Reading is 60 minutes with a post-show discussion to follow.
