Ellen V. & Philip L. Glass Holocaust Commemorative Series: Kristallnacht Commemoration
On the evening of November 9, 1938, the Nazis unleashed a horrific assault of devastating pogroms that marked the beginning of the Holocaust and would eventually become known as Kristallnacht – the “Night of Broken Glass.” Join us as we commemorate the 83rd anniversary of the “Night of Broken Glass” with a program of remembrance and reflection.
This powerful intergenerational commemoration will be led by Ralph Rehbock, Kristallnacht Survivor and Museum Vice President, Board of Directors; and Carly Rehbock, 3rd-Generation and Museum Young Professional Committee Member; with a keynote presentation by Ambassador Michaela Küchler, Special Representative for Relations with Jewish Organizations, Issues Relating to Antisemitism, International Sinti and Roma Affairs, and Holocaust Remembrance, and President Emeritus of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. The commemoration will also include remarks by Consul General of Israel to the Midwest, Yinam Cohen, German Consul General in Chicago, Wolfgang Moessinger, a candle-lighting ceremony featuring Survivors and descendants of Survivors, as well as memorial prayers and song chanted by Cantor David Berger, KAM Isaiah Israel Congregation and Scholar in Residence, The American Conference of Cantors.
