Book & Author: Fate Unknown: The Last Great Archive of Nazism
Fate Unknown uncovers the powerful, untold story of the International Tracing Service (ITS), the world’s largest and, for many years, most secretive archive of Holocaust-related documents.
Established by the Allies at the close of World War II, the ITS has spent decades searching for missing persons, reuniting families, and aiding survivors with restitution claims. With more than 30 million documents, it holds the key to some of the most poignant and hidden histories of the war.
At the end of World War II, the Allied occupation authorities discovered far more unaccompanied children than they expected in Germany. Author and historian, Dan Stone, takes us deep into the archives, revealing the remarkable efforts of the ITS, and the previously unknown Child Search Branch, made both to assist these children in finding relatives and to help those who were searching for missing children.
Dr. Stone’s presentation will explain how ITS’s Child Search Branch operated and tell the stories of some of the children involved.
Be sure to join us for this powerful exploration of history and the stories of survival, loss, and resilience it preserves: the legacy of the Holocaust
A post-program book signing of Dr. Stone’s two books: The Holocaust: An Unfinished History, and Fate Unknown: Tracing the Missing after World War II and the Holocaust will occur near the gift shop.
